The German government on Wednesday criticized the US intervention in Venezuela, four days after special forces captured the country’s authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in spectacular fashion, drawing international condemnation.
Idk, seems like every expert I hear is saying it’s illegal and a violation of international law and only people who rely on being popular with as many people as possible and antagonising as few people as possible are like “myeeeh who can even say gosh it’s all so very difficult”. Weird.
I mean, if they had just kidnapped Maduro to try him and didn’t pretend to own Venezuela otherwise…there could be a way to say it was arresting a criminal (who happens to be a head of state and has diplomatic immunity, but then you could argue that since Venezuela is not on paper a dictatorship and he stole the election, he is not the legitimate head of state…ok…take him to the ICJ, then, which you don’t recognize…so…uh…jurisdiction…no…)
But when captain orange shitass says that they will run Venezuela, claim “victory”, take the oil, threaten more attacks, not run new elections, not talk to neighbouring countries or allies when they have nothing, just the threat of getting themselves into another Vietnam with all of South America…it is not even just illegal, it is dumb.
