I do wonder what that goo is. Some kind of intercellular nutrient soup, like blood plasma?
I remember reading about some study that suggested certain memories are retained between the caterpillar and the butterfly which is just super fucking interesting. I believe it involved instilling a fear response to certain stimuli into the caterpillars then showing that the butterflies exhibited the same fear response. So something in that goo might actually retain learned information.
Edit: also heimlich from a bug’s life clearly retained his personality and mannerisms after becoming a beautiful butterfly so it must be true
