Denmark on Sunday made its displeasure known after the wife of President Donald Trump’s most influential aide posted a social media picture of Greenland painted in the colours of the US flag.

Katie Miller – wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller – put the contentiously altered image of the Danish autonomous territory on her X feed late Saturday, after the US military operation against Venezuela.

Her post had a single word above it: “SOON”.

I think Trump will assault Greenland. The real question for everyone else is, “What the hell should we do about this bullshit?!”

At this point, I think that proactive defenses would be the way to go. The core tenet isn’t to save Greenland, but rather to make Trump’s attempt into such a fumble, that he would look feeble at home and abroad.

1: Set up defenses, such as torpedo drones, anti-air, dragon’s teeth, and so forth. They don’t have to be powerful nor expensive, just layered on thick enough to make an invasion into a slog.

2: Force the diplomatic removal of existing American forces from the Thule Airforce base, or put down deterrents to prevent it from being used during an assault. Landmines, barbed wire, dialed in artillery, the works.

3: Place a small garrison. Their goal is to hold out long enough to cause embarrassment to the US. Just a thousand or so troops might be enough, provided their defenses are in place ahead of time. They should be EU soldiers, to make a Greenland invasion into a bigger incident and to promote solidarity among members of the EU.

4: Wire up Greenland’s mining facilities and other valuables to be destroyed. The EU can offer compensation to Greenland if they have to be demolished. Also, free rehousing and stipend inside the EU for anyone evacuated from Greenland. They should have a jet or a freighter on standby for civilians, alongside smaller vehicles for key personnel.

Presumably, any freighter would have to be located well away from the coastlines that America is likely to attack, or perhaps airfields away from the capital. Key point, is that evacuation procedures and materials should be prepared ahead of time, on the EU’s dime.
