I now reside in Germany and my current employer pays 50% of the Deutschland-Job-Ticket. There is no physical card but travel information you download to an android wallet, but apparently google wallet is the only available option. See the picture:
Google is a company I don’t trust with my data, neither do I expect your regular public transportation authority employee to care about his privacy (he looked at me as I was asking if 2 + 2 equal 4). I am not aware of non google based wallets where I can download the travel information.
I tried some f-droid and droidify options but it turns out they’re pure crap.
The site: https://abo.ride-ticketing.de/app/ I log in with my username and password, get my travel information and on the bottom the picture I uploaded.
Any workarounds?
This being Germany, shouldn’t there be an alternative to those who refuse google? Don’t I have that right as a consumer?
Another question: I screenshot my logged in session on the link I provided where you see my qr code and my billing data. The public transportation employee told me that’s not allowed (wtf?). Can anyone here provide a rationale?
If you have a .pkpass file, you could try “kde itinerary”
This is unusual. Adding tickets to wallets is always optional. You should have an email with all the information or at least something to show in the app directly.
Is there a reason not to get it via the db app?
DB Navigator collects and shares so much private data that it is being sued by privacy activist groups right now
They are usually just .pkpass files, so any app that can show them should work. Most likely the “Hinzufügen zu Google Wallet” link will also work since it just links to the pkpass file. But be prepared to get asked if it is a screenshot a lot. I am using passandroid (further down this thread) and it works.
That is Apple wallet. Google is a cloud thingy.
Sorry i dont follow? Google Wallet also supports pkpass files and i doubt that they use anything else. That would be so much harder for no gain.
Nevermind i saw the follow up post, how fucked up is that. I apologize for my misdirected advice.
Any workarounds?
When getting the Deutschlandticket from HVV for example, you can opt for a physical card, not needing any app at all. Very convenient.
I had a deal with my last employer: instead of them handling everything and giving me a code for the app, I ordered the ticket directly from HVV and they payed me the part of it that otherwise would be payed by them directly.
Maybe your local public transport provider has a physical card, too, and this could be a valid option then?
The public transportation employee told me that’s not allowed (wtf?). Can anyone here provide a rationale?
There could be an additional value being calculated in when using the app-based ticket, maybe based on time. A screenshot would be static and producing either invalid or wrong results.

Only one that I know of
I use PassAndroid (https://f-droid.org/packages/org.ligi.passandroid)
but it looks unmaintained now
That looks awesome.
i have the d-ticket as a plastic card, maybe ask at the office of your local public transport wether thats still a possibility.
besides that, you should be able to add the ticket to the DB navigator app, although looking at the reviews on the google play store, that doesnt seem ideal either. maybe the app of your local public transport offers this functionality and is better maintained
I use Passandroid but is quite old https://f-droid.org/packages/org.ligi.passandroid
I quite like it
I used to use this app and was quite happy with it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.attidomobile.passwallet
Back then, I was able to download a file (also from ride-ticketing.de) I could then open in any wallet app. Try to see if that’s still an option.
I think the “no screenshots” rule is so that you don’t share your ticket with others via screenshot. In my experience it’s not strictly enforced though - if they can see that the ticket is valid and is yours, they’ll usually allow it.
I am not sure if it can handle Google Wallet, but physical cards can easily be scanned and used with https://github.com/Akylas/OSS-DocumentScanner
