I found this misleading - it’s not that all the previous attempters died, she is literally the first who attempted this “go over the Niagara falls in a barrel” stunt. And actually, her cat was first:

And I still don’t understand why anyone would do such a thing, and why it became a thing. Why a barrel? Where’s the appeal? It seems even dumber than most other pointless, dangerous stunts. e.g. jumping from space onto earth is dangerous as fuck, but it’s also clearly an amazing experience (tens of kilometers of freefall, with an amazing view).
Iirc, those who’ve tried going over the Niagara falls were often broke and wanted to sell their story for making money.
She was just real bummed out that bungee jumping and skydiving wasn’t available to her. So what’s a gal to do? Out over the falls in a barrel!
