T480 (not sure about T580) is a strange beast regarding storage implemantation. I’ve seen SATA models (worse, slower) and NVMe models (better, rarer?, faster). I own the SATA one and I believe that good part of the performance difference I see between it and a T14 Gen 2 (running same setup and same tasks ) is on account of the faster storage. Among T14 devices NVMe is I believe standard.

A colleague wanted to throw out Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3, 10IGL5 (a tablet pc with IMO cool keyboard that can be disconnected and used over bluetooth, 4 core intel CPU taking like 5W & 8GB of ram). Originally bought for his kid but it is absolutely useless under windows. I’ve tested it with current Ubuntu with somewhat meh results (BT keyboard won’t work, no chance to get the automatic screen rotation going, screwy on screen keyboard) then I have installed Fedora and the thing is absolutely amazing. Everything works out of the box, I haven’t done anything “smart” at all and honestly as a XFCE (still deep in x11) user I am amazed how well the Wayland is doing on this. I would dare to say better out of the box experience than Apple - everything is similarly polished but you don’t have to register / pay anything. Now my teamleader is taking it to presentations. He connects the display over USB-C adapter to the projector, walks over the room and controls it with the BT keyboard - Mac wielding accounts are starting to cry. As docker/podman is native he continues to spin up the whole app in a container - at which point every technical person in the room needs to know what the f is that thing?! They are no longer being manufactured though, newer version does not have that cool keyboard…

Sorry. By that I meant that even here, in our “safe Europe” our religious belives sometimes reach beyond what I believe should be allowed in a healthy society. Only the scale/method is wildly different - such that it “does not stand comparison”.

I don’t believe these 3000 individuals faithfully represent the 5+ milion Muslims who live in Germany nor the almost 2 bilion Muslims in the world.

What I do belive they represent is violent religious extremism. And that is not limited to Muslims. You got Buddhists shooting people in Myanmar, Jews shooting people in the west bank, Hindu stoning people in India and even 1st world American Christians shooting on plant parenthood clinics…

We should be vigillant whenever a religions doctrine gets into conflict with what we understand are basic human rights. I am not confident we are. I am not comparing PIS to idk Hamas - but how many women have died in Poland due to their anti-abortion laws and how is that acceptable?

This could have been expressed in a single sentence: The fact that Israel is punishing all citizens of Ghaza for Hamas attacks does not mean that Germans should act the same towards the Jews (but we don’t mind if you do towards Iranians and such). Tragic.

Fast / Branded fashion - When I was at grammar school there were attempts at bullying kids not wearing branded clothes. Attempts - because those days I was not only year older and head higher than any of my peers but also one pissed off boy scout. They say violence does not solve anything - I say there are exceptions. I don’t wear clothes with any form of visible branding or statement. No matter if it is NIKE or similar piece of crap or some brand no one ever heard of. My backpack is the model bundeswehr used to use till the late 80s - re-stitched so many times it is probably a totally unique piece of luggage by now. My jeans are de-branded levis or wornstar bootcuts with reinforced crotch (iron-on patches), my jackets are by Polish company Helicon Tex - they mostly supply to military / police - their models are brand less single color rugged simple and big on pockets. I love Source sandals and linen pants for summer. It should be noted that my occupation does not require me to look respectable - I look like a used fiver - and everybody loves me.
