  • I would say most of the customers of Framework are the kinds of people who espouse the kind of antifascist ideology that that guy that started the thread does.

I don’t think that the fascist sympathizer circle and the “willing to pay more money for an ethical laptop that isn’t beholden to a big corporation for repair” circles have much overlap.

This is easy, “Framework doesn’t support fascism or racism in any form. We support open source software and right to repair. Due to concerns with ideology in some of the projects we sponsor we are reviewing the projects we sponsor to make sure that they align with our values as a company.”

The fact that they aren’t willing to say so says plenty.

  • Been there. Reason I didnt is because other people would bear the shit if I did. Im in a much better place at the moment but I felt exactly the way ypu do about the world.

There is a fuckload of propaganda, and a lot of it is meant to make you lose hope at ever seeing the system change. That makes the opinion that things can and might improve and you are going to be a part of it, no matter how small the most radical thing of all.

Genuinely what helped me through it was volunteering. Everything is shit wall to wall BUT this one tiny thing is better than it was because of me. Its a sustaining feeling for sure.

Keep hanging in there for the ones you love, and the ones that love you.

  • You also get additional protection because rather than each website holding onto a hashed (hopefully) copy of the user passwords that can be stolen in bulk, stealing the public keys for a passkey from a site wouldn’t compromise the account. Someone would have to get access to your physical device or hack your password manager individually to get access to your passkey.

And and, the magic for most people is no more passwords and 2 factor stuff to deal with. The standard is still new, and in the cases where you want to use physical keys, its always best to keep 2 in case one gets smushed or goes through the washer. Some sites that have passkeys enabled only let you have 1 passkey. So in that case its kind of risky to make a passkey the only way to sign in.
