Sounds like someone needs to spend a day or two going down a wikipedia rabbit hole about the concept of knowledge.

They’ll wait a month or so and try it again, quieter this time.

We did have that briefly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_Droid

Mint is popular for beginners. I went with Debian KDE because I wanted something a little more minimalistic and boring. Fedora and OpenSUSE are also good options.
If you want to stick with a Windows-like desktop, pick a KDE distro over GNOME.

Unless you’re trying to practice with Windows server for work, I can’t think of any good reason to use it at home.

Yeah, that’s my biggest hesitation with recommending Linux to absolutely everyone. It’s super easy to install most of the time. But most people are not equipped to work around issues that may come up, and then the computer is as good as bricked until they find help.

The socks have a bit of a learning curve, depending on what you want to do with them, but it’s worth it. It’s such a huge relief to not care how much more Windows is getting enshittified this week, since it’s not my problem anymore.

I noticed the price doubled since the last time I ordered a drive, like a year ago.
Pity young people today.
Don’t be programmers; there’s no future in it.
Fixed

They’re already doing that, starting with “immigrants”

Any teachers here wanna weigh in on the ability of current kids’ ability to write complete sentences, let alone calculate the area of this shape?

I switched from W11 when Copilot Vision was scheduled for a forced install. Choose Debian KDE because my servers are all Debian-based already, and I wanted boring and stable. For the most part, it’s been smooth sailing. There’s a touchpad issue sometimes that requires reloading the mouse module, and updating my Dell dock requires loading a Windows boot disk to run the installer from that environment. That’s about it for problems. Using apt and flatpak to manage updates for all my software has been great. I do not miss downloading and clicking through installer wizards all the time.
I’m stuck with the Ryan Reynolds/Will Farrell version

Maybe not, if Intel goes tits-up

🤔 I’m skeptical that it was just the banana and peanut butter that did it.
I cannot express in words just how much I do not want my consciousness to persist, trapped, for trillions of years of darkness. That would be unimaginable hell.

The Internet has already been mostly destroyed, drowned in AI slop. Is all that shit gonna be taken down? Are search engines going to go back to working again?
