He says that she’s alive and well and has been busy devoting her time to Scientology and is definitely not dead or being held captive or anything, so I shouldn’t “worry my pretty head about it, sweet cheeks.” I should note that he was born in the 40’s.

A zebra is closer to the size of a donkey than a horse, and donkeys have about 5 horsepower, so a 200hp car would be about 40zf (zebra force). Also, since horses actually have about 15 horsepower, that same car would be about 13ahp (actual horse power). Llamas are also about the size of a donkey, so probably similar numbers.

Disclaimer: I’m not a scientist and these numbers came from my ass.

  • Too many people are too comfortable to ever get off their asses to do anything more than bitch about it online. It’s a very small percentage of people that actually go to rallies and half of those people are middle class white people that have never known real hardship; the kind of people that are surprised when they get pepper sprayed while trying to break into the capitol. There won’t be a civil war, but we’re definitely on the brink of single party rule.

We’re like a bunch of frogs sitting in water that is being slowly brought to a boil, but except for water it’s fascism and half the country is okay with it because they think they are “saving the children.” The other half think they can stop it. I think that both sides might be delusional.

  • I apologize if I put words in your mouth.

Fortunately, it’s actually pretty easy to download a copy of Wikipedia and it’s not even that big. For YT, it would be a pretty massive undertaking. I suppose a good way to start would be to download all the content from channels that you found interesting; I’m pretty sure there are tools that facilitate that. Then, ignoring licensing and copyright issues, hosting the content would depend on how big the data is. Maybe something like Plex or Jellyfin? I kinda want to try it now with a smaller channel just to see.

  • I don’t think the centralization of information is necessarily a good thing. Besides, having information on different sites is why search engines exist. When I need to learn how to replace, let’s say a toilet shut off valve, I start with a search engine, so it doesn’t matter to me if I find a video on YouTube, Vimeo, or some other service, as long as I don’t have to sign up to view it.

The convenience that YouTube offers is a centralized place for entertainment, like Netflix used to be, and like we’ve had to do with streaming, we’ll adapt if we must.

YouTube was an amazing idea that changed the world, but now it’s being squeezed for every penny that Google can get, a company that found “Don’t be evil” too restrictive. It’s just another example of what happens when a company has to be more profitable every year in order to be considered successful.

  • A major motivation for flying is it’s faster and that will still be the case, so they’ll still have plenty of customers, right? So if an airline can fly a route for 20 euros but the minimum price is, say 50 euros, won’t the airline just pocket an extra 30 euros?

Why are flights cheaper that trains, anyway? According to the article and the linked Greenpeace research, trains are 2-10 more expensive (and take longer) because of extra taxes that the airlines don’t pay. So, instead of a minimum price, how about we address the root of the problem and either tax the airlines more or tax the trains less?

Maybe in addition to removing some exemptions, we add a pollution tax too (or maybe just raise the fuel tax)? Taxes have been used to motivate the market for a long time, so if we make it expensive enough to pollute, then it will motivate r&d to develop less polluting aircraft. In fact, hydrogen fueled aircraft are already being pursued: https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/hydrogen-aircraft-developers-are-long-haul-2023-02-09/

In my opinion, France’s proposal is like using a sledgehammer to drive a nail.
