  • lossless recompression of existing JPEG Uh… how does it make a JPEG lossless? Or is it lossless in that it makes a JXL out of a JPEG without affecting the original JPEG quality (i.e. no further loss beyond JPEG’s)?

Being able to turn JPEGs into JXLs and JXLs back to JPEGs is cool, though

What’s with the AVIF thing? Yet another I am unfamiliar with (all I know about image formats is JPG = worse quality, PNG = better quality, GIF = animated (and something WebP. Idk much about that one either))

Also, in my research, I’ve found something about the distinction between lossless JXL vs lossy JXL. Seems like you wouldn’t be able to tell if the image is lossy or lossless just from it being a JXL

  • Eh, now that I think about it, such a project would either need to take a lot of decisions for the user, or risk becoming too complex for giving the user options. I mean, I see partitioning, and I realise that’s something I hadn’t thought of. I assumed just an install, but what if the user wants dual boot? What distro to pick? How much space for each “boot”? Do we choose a specific DE or take the distro’s main or default? So many variables. I mean, it’s one thing to BAM! Ubuntu auto-installer .exe. Now, to allow for user choices… or not to? You either give options, which could be overwhelmimg to someone who might not even understand all that, or become simple and, in the process, heavily “opinionated”

  • Yo, you’re giving me ideas. Maybe I can make use of my old laptop, get Windows on it (if possible), and try to do something like this. Could the average user run something through the terminal? I know PowerShell and some CMD. Or I could figure out how to GUI as well. I’d need to sketch out what such an app would do. Downloading a Linux distro would be step one. Not sure if I could make BIOS changes, though, and install. I guess with my current abilities, it’d end up being an auto ISO downloader and USB flasher at best. But I’d be down to learn and try. I’d need a basic Install Linux 101 guide, to “mimic” through a script. Could be a fun project.

Eh, idk if some guy hating their trans daughter makes it worth basing most mentions of her around said guy. I mean, obviously how she feels should be taken into account. I am not one to speak for her. But I wouldn’t do evil onto someone to do evil onto someone else. Not sure I vibe with “it’s quite terrible, but justified cuz it hurts someone else” (even if said someone is bad). Especially when it involves doing evil to someone distancing themselves from the other person in some way. Maybe it’d be different if they were complicit

Well, gotta count me in the group that would not know her, seeing as I neither know Stacy Cay nor Vivian’s shitposting. Just saw one interview I stumbled upon on a random “I’m kinda bored” YouTube search (and maybe some mentions like the one in the post, which bring up her connection (or lack thereof) to some guy)

Kinda sad that she is often mentioned in relation to that one guy. I don’t know lots about her but she seems rather cool from the one interview I watched.

I guess the connection (or lack thereof) is unfortunately needed to get anyone to care, as otherwise it’d be just some random person (and there are plenty of those around).

On the other hand, she do just be someone, like many other someones. She just happens to be linkeable to that one guy, which brings her some more visibility than someone else who might be similar though unique in their own way but with no such connection that’d attract attention

  • I’ve tried COSMIC DE Beta on Pop!_OS on an older laptop I have around, and the feature I’m looking forward to most, that I’ve seen and experienced from my mininal usage of it, is the ability to easily change colours from settings. Not just accent colours, but window colours, text colours, etc. From what I recall, I could, for instance, recreate Hot Dog Stand, the Windows 3.1 colour theme, right from the system settings app, no third party downloads
