It’s always down to the nuance of individual occurrences, yeah. In some cases, it wouldn’t be that damaging with reduced frequency and duration of interactions, keep it short and sweet.
But I do agree with you that there are circumstances in which it’s better to just cut them off then move on. Sucks, but that’s the truth of it.
It may still be a good idea to reduce the volume if interactions become grating. Take more time for yourself, avoid bringing up landmine subjects, don’t outstay your welcome, don’t let them do it, either, etc.
Needs a haircut.
I honestly don’t think I am. They are both affected by the same elements, although degrees may vary.
Let’s not forget the at times almost resentful detachment from all things American which has been sweeping Europe (and I’m not criticising it, don’t get me wrong), and an increase in the prevalence of opinions which are in opposition to America is to be expected as well, both in the people and the politics (one feeds the other, always).
Well, for one, now that the economic pressure to stay on America’s good side in terms of Liberal (i.e. what passes for Liberal nowadays) minutiae has been mostly eliminated, public support of things which would oppose America’s interests has become less taboo.
Also, yes, the joke was that America left Europe’s sphere of influence, and now Europe can speak its mind.
Funny, kinda’ like how everyone unwinds after that person (America) leaves the room:)))
(not all Americans, hope the joke factor is clear)
No, but seriously. I see this said everywhere and I think most people take it as a sort of superstition, but, like… your entire thought patterns change once you give it up, it’s like an engine being allowed to slow down after over-revving it incessantly. All these things do is waste our cognitive bandwidth. And, yes, I’m including any social network where “me” is the main focus.
Lol? Lmao, even?
The post-modern version of “three kids in a trenchcoat.”
Nietzche would’ve lost his marbles. Oh, wait…
Wish they’d make the same mistake here :-< Those Miami Fizz bits would be the perfect treat were they ‘happy’ gummies.
I’m morbidly eager to see how they’ll handle the Win 10 EoL (yeah, yeah, it ain’t dyin’, just not getting updated, same thing to me tbh) in October. I bet it’ll be a shitshow.
I don’t rebel because I’m a punk, I’m a punk because I rebel😎💅
Exactly! It’s slithering and insidious, it looks for any crack and forces its way through! Trying to reason with Fascism is like trying to reason with an aggressive form of cancer.
See, this is why I STRONGLY believe something like Lemmy is essential for an actual Democracy to function. Of course, not the only thing, we also need a rethink of our educational systems, a complete restructuring of our priorities and principles as a species, and these are just to name a few.
But true Democracy cannot exist unless the consensus is granular, as well as educated and rational. The Forum is necessary.
But we still have a lot of rethinking to do beyond just that, otherwise we’ll be right back where we started. We can’t have a Democracy centered around anything other than its people (i.e. not fucking Capitalism).
Edit: and it needs to function primarily toward nurturing people who can adequately carry said Democratic process! We should never have do our shopping while starving, so to speak, and we should be educated in such a way as to understand what and why we’re consuming, with adequate transparency to allow us that understanding, etc.
Yep, we need a rebuild, from the ground up. Democracy is a very good idea, but the Greeks were right in that it needs a lot more fine-tuning.
I honestly don’t think we have to play dirty in any way, we have to be willing to be just as forceful as they are when we tell them “no.” And we need to start telling them that a lllot more!
The problem with the old system is not that it tries to always play nice, it’s that it’s trying to not upset the money. As an example, the correct way to aproach Trump’s tariffs and overall intentions would have been to completely cut any and all economic and political ties with America. Like, no offence to any Americans who didn’t vote for him, but that’s the unfortunate truth.
Of course, that would’ve been DEEPLY uncomfortable for all of us and would’ve required a unified front on our end, but sometimes you have to burn the field if you’re to make room for a healthier crop.
And this is an extreme example, but the same principle applies in all such interactions with Fascism, at any level. We (Romania) narrowly avoided electing a Fascistic president - that guy should’ve been pelted with tomatoes from day one, he should’ve been shouted out of the electoral pool. But we can’t have that, because the Fascists will get upset.
My question: who the fuck cares if we upset the Fascists?! Isn’t that the whole fucking point?!
This. The old ways are only good at limiting the flow, and even that’s up to a point.
Fascism is the type of vehemence which requires an equal vehemence to successfully oppose it.
Especially when you don’t have any form of weekend support. But, hey! Bad news can’t reach you if the Support page’s just a placeholder!
