  • I’ve definitely done this on tabletop rpgs. A one-shot DND character I played once was “Napoleon the 69th.” He was named after and visibly resembled our black cat, Napoleon. He was a tabaxi monk. His backstory was that his family line was an extremely ancient long-deposed royal family. Like a royal family from several dynasties ago. But his ancestors were still obsessed with protecting their noble lineage, so they were inbred to hell and back. He was a tabaxi that was so inbred, that physically…he was just an ordinary cat.

I mean, it’s a pretty effective filter. Someone who paints their nails and wears women’s clothes from time to time is at the very least unlikely to be some misogynistic asshole. I’m sure there are some exceptions, but as a general rule, it’s a good simple filter.

You and your friends are running a marijuana grow op. The police break down the door. One of them sees your friend reaching for something (their phone) and shoots them dead. That person died in the commission of a felony (marijuana growing) that you were part of. You can now face life imprisonment for felony murder. In some states, this can actually happen.

When I graduated with my master’s in education, the boneheaded school administrators brought in a entrepreneur/CEO type to give the commencement address at the College of Education’s graduation ceremony. He gave an inspiring speech about how if you work hard and be entrepreneurial, you can achieve whatever level of wealth and success you desire. He gave this speech to a crowd that was primarily current and future public school teachers.
