  • I’m pretty sure they touch on those points in the paper, they knew they were overloading it and were looking at how it handled that in particular. My understanding is that they’re testing failure modes to try and probe the inner workings to some degree; they discuss the impact of filling up the context in the abstract, mention it’s designed to stress test and are particularly interested in memory limits, so I’m pretty sure they’ve deliberately chosen to not cater to an LLMs ideal conditions. It’s not really a real world use case of LLMs running a business (even if that’s the framing given initially), it’s not just a test to demonstrate capabilities, it’s an experiment meant to break them in a simulated environment. The last line of the abstract kind highlights this, they’re hoping to find flaws to improve the models generally.

Either way, I just meant to point out that they can absolutely just output junk as a failure mode.

  • The phrase “we aren’t free until we’re all free” applies to animals as much as humans, and thinking otherwise is straight up bigotry. That so few extend leftist thought to the rest of the living world is a travesty, if you’ve managed to come around to leftist thinking then you’ve absolutely been capable of challenging your pre-conceived biases and this is just another step in that process.

All that said, I’m not one to judge people for not agreeing with this. It took me an exceptionally long time and the right circumstances to finally reassess my reasoning and to realise it was absurdly flawed, hypocritical and informed by propaganda.

  • Everyone has a problem with furries because “it’s sexual” and the usual rebuttal is that not all of it is about sex, but I think this misses the point.

Basically every adult fandom has a sexual element, weebs are the fucking same and no one goes around calling all anime fans perverts. Sexuality is a natural human thing and they have a goddamn right to explore that through their medium. Get to know a furry, they’re just normal fucking people (pun not intended, I’m just Australian).

Beastiality is not a furry thing and should not be lumped into it. Fuck zoophiles.

There’s also a lot of people who will use the abstraction available in furry art/fandom to explore their identity and sexuality, it’s honestly a good space for helping people grow and understand themselves. I’ve known plenty of trans people who’ve only been able to find and accept their being trans through their fursonas. They’re valid as hell and I’ll defend them until I die.
