Tbh i dont think the downvote button should reduce the visibility of a comment. Downvotes should just show the general consensus. They shouldn’t mask discorse. If people have different opinions, then they should be visible. The up and downvotes will tell readers what most people in a given community think about a particular opinion, which should be enough to shape the opinions of those on the fence or less in the know. but maintaining the visibility of the comments stops a valid point from being buried by a smaller but more vocal minority.

If we shape our opinions only by what ends up on top on any given day based on who happened to be browsing at that time then we may end up censoring good points. All sides should be considered or opinions become narrow and nobody will consider anything other than what they are told to.

In a similar vein i really like the pink floyd vamp. Its on (i think) 50% of the songs on dark side of the moon. Its Gm7 and C9 back and forth on great gig in the sky but there are a few variations. For example Em and A7 on breathe or its used here and there in “time” with F#m and A.

It ties alot of their songs together and sounds amazing.

Ive been getting these in my feed too.

I remember a time when i bought a printer and it came with refillable ink cartridges which worked out significantly cheaper and better for the environment. And i could buy off brand cartridges that worked great too for cheaper.

The next printer i bought had microchips that identified the cartridges as being genuines so the cheap off brand ones didnt work anymore. And the refillable bit was gone.

That was easily 15 years ago. Why is this only just coming back up now. Its beena scam for over a decade. Maybe longer.

Now that i think about it, i think it was an activation issue. I had a dodgey made legal copy of windows 10 when they offered the free upgrade to even those with illegal copies of windows, but when i moved it, i needed to activate and didn’t know the key.

But two replies offering different bits of advice to my comment shows that at least in part its true that this is not straightforward

We use both. Its not my department but i know the server guys are using windows for some servers and linux for others and the decision is normally made based on which is going to be best for the specific needs of the function of that server.

Pretending one is outright better than the other is childish. Just use whats best at the time.

The windows boot drive? Dont think thats possible anymore. If its completely new hardware.

Im not sure what the trigger is but if enough hardware has changed it wont boot.

I had to install windows fresh on a new hard drive when i bought a new pc last year.
