I haven’t made any arguments in this thread, you are putting words in my mouth, and not really helping your credibility. All I said is that the person should defederate Lemmy instances and communities which go against the mission of their instance. Something that almost all instance operators would likely agree on.

Just for the record though, I don’t believe people should be kicked out of a project based on their nationality, that seems incredibly xenophobic. I don’t know where you got that idea that I said any of those things from.

Still worth while to do so, the trick is you need to defederate problematic instances. Not hide them, fully defederate. That stops problematic instances and communties from affecting your userbase. There’s many great Lemmy servers and communties out there. Just because a few of them aren’t great doesn’t mean you should dismiss all of them.

You don’t actually need to. The people who want to buy your game will buy your game. The people who don’t, just won’t. That’s not going to change by implementing artificial scarcity, people who really want it for free will find a way even if you try to stop them.

No offense but license infringement is such a weak argument because there isn’t anything to really enforce these licenses. They aren’t watching us in our homes, they can’t forcefully remove it from our computers. It is gatekeeping that people choose to feed into. They talk big and act small, you’re not supposed to play the game if your account is deleted or the service closes, but there isn’t anything stopping you from doing it, they’re just trying to gatekeep you. No real point in listening to them.

Steam DRM isn’t even really DRM in the traditional sense and it’s very easy to put games into a program or use an injected/patched .dll to bypass the Steam Launch check. It’s annoying sure but it’s not something that people should be concerned about.

People going on about being authorized do do this, not authorized to do that. General rule, don’t listen to others telling you what to do and what no to do if they can’t enforce their own rules. Steam and the rest of the digital corpos talk big, and act small. Do what you want, play your games not through steam, they handed the files to you and asked you nicely not do do what you want with them, you’re perfectly free not to listen to them, and honestly you shouldn’t listen to them 🏴‍☠️.

2FA in lemmy is a gimmick more than anything else, it’s more trouble than it is worth and comes with a significant risk of losing your account. It is better than it used to be but I still wouldn’t consider it good. Best to just not use it.

I think most people develop a positive association with them because of the pleasant effects. That hasn’t happened to me yet though, and probably won’t. I prefer when my drinks taste good, like actually taste good like a fruity fizzy drink, not like I’m drinking something fermented way past its prime. I still do drink wine or beer in social gatherings to fit in but I don’t really enjoy it. I just have them when there isn’t anything else.

This is Lemmy’s 2FA implementation, most of the corporate ones are still not great. Probably not this bad though.

There really isn’t any need, it’s very much overkill. I’d say in the vast majority of places where it is asked it is not needed and can even be a bad thing due to the risk of losing account access.

I’m really not a fan of 2FA since if I lose or break my phone in most 2FA implementations you just get locked out. Nothing to do. Even with TOTP keys it’s just an extra password I have to remember. I don’t want to do that, the marginal increase doesn’t feel worth the risk of being locked out of my account.

So I just won’t use 2FA, especially on Lemmy of all places. Oh how I’ve heard the horror stories of people using the early 2FA implementation and getting locked out. Not me, not ever, people may say it’s better these days but this still doesn’t seem worth it.

It’s less about cutting them off as a person and more about banning them from a page, group, or platform. Like banning them from a Mastodon instance or Lemmy server.

Hopefully their stock goes down even more, anything that makes the shareholders suffer is a good thing.
