America chose the route of social security and a mandated minimum wage instead of the state seizing the assets of robber barons and returning them to the communities that were responsible for their success.

You can see today exactly how well that worked out for the working class: minimum wage is below the poverty line and hasn’t been a living wage since the 70s, social security is being undone, and the government regulations that mandated a standard of living for working class Americans have been entirely dismantled.

This is the result of leaving the power within the capitalist class and allowing them to get away with their abuses without punishment: they do it again as soon as they get the chance.

Very interesting! I was aware of the 5nm advancements and the limitations of chip sizes approaching the physical limitations of the material but I had been assuming since we worked around the single core issue a similar innovation would appear for this bottleneck. It seems like the focus instead was turned towards integrating AI into the gpu architecture and cranking up the power consumption for marginal gains in performance instead of working towards a paradigm shift. Thanks for the in depth explanation though, I always appreciate an opportunity to learn more about this type of stuff!

Is it Moores law failing or have we finally reached the point where capitalists are not even pretending to advance technology in order to charge higher prices? Like are we actually not able to make things faster and cheaper anymore or is the market controlled by a monopoly that sees no benefit in significantly improving their products? My opinion has been leaning more and more towards the latter since the pandemic.

I’ve been reading a lot about behavior modification and technofeudalism and once you see it you can’t unsee it. The tech companies are quite literally just farming us for data and using their gadgets as a Trojan horse to get us to accept more invasive stuff into our lives.

The product isn’t vr glasses the product is you and for apple to sell the ability to nudge you into different behaviors with subtle cues in your daily activities. It’s the same thing as Facebook but at least Facebook had a use case originally and people used it because they wanted to.

This tech is being conceptualized and designed and marketed at us not because there’s a market for this stuff but they WANT there to be a market for it. They’re doing it right now with this post, convincing people that it’s actually really anticipated, but I’ll ask you this: how many times have you been in conversation where someone brought up a problem that would be solved by ar glasses? Or one level above that, how many people have openly expressed to you a desire for glasses so they don’t have to use their phone? I know you’re not the one who was arguing against my original comment but that should tell you everything you need to know about the market conditions. They’re not solving a problem, they’re creating a demand.

I’m just saying, be weary of these tech companies. They have made their intentions clear enough to warrant skepticism. Here is an economist explaining this better than I can, if you’re interested in the subject.

You are complaining about me pointing out that there is zero DEMAND for this product. Nobody is asking for “Augmented reality” or whatever. It is not innovative or moving technology forward it’s literally an excuse to harvest a million more data points per minute for no benefit to the end user.

You seriously can’t comprehend how these companies use, manipulate, and coerce you to create a false demand for this slop? There is plenty of great literature on the subject, and if you’d like I can direct you to people with expertise to explain the concepts. Just stop mindlessly accepting and defending this behavior and stand up for yourself as a consumer.

They already did this with Google glass and failed spectacularly. There is no market for this. Nobody is wishing they had computer glasses. It is something being forced onto consumers for the benefit of apple and it will not work.

You’d think with the massive failure of their apple vision they’d have learned this lesson already.

The important bit in the article was that he had bought it used. I’m sure its not a standard feature for brand new Tesla, but I would absolutely believe that some kind of fuckery to keep pre-owned buyers from taking advantage of the warranty is SOP. It’s counting double the miles, there’s no possible way for that to happen on accident unless the odometer is completely independent of the cars systems.

I’m pretty sure old odometers literally spun according to the wheels turning as you drove. If Tesla is “calculating” mileage then they would absolutely be able to just inject commands to ignore the correct algorithm and make it hit 50k as fast as possible. I’m sure most of the people they did this to weren’t keen eyed enough to notice.

Certainly not all Tesla, just the ones they think they can get away with. 38k miles is not very far from 50k, they assumed he would be a rube and just suck it up when they told him his warranty was invalid.

It is the world we should live in though. And it’s the one we should be advocating for instead of justifying the current system that privatizes profits of lifesaving medications and vaccines over making them widely available at the lowest possible cost to society and consumers.

We can get to the point you’re talking to in your last paragraph, we just have to stop letting the people who benefit from the current system demand the conversation be centered around the impact it has on them. You and I sure as fuck don’t benefit from patents. We would benefit from open source medicine. I don’t really care if nobody is able to maintain a billion dollar company based off withholding and silo-ing information.
