If someone “scolds” you in public for being gay, especially in front of a kid, dress them down. Tell them if you have to watch the president use the F bomb on television, and flip someone off, they can surely live through the spectacle of people in love. I used to run away in shame and anger when people did this, now I have learned to “politely” shut them down.
My favorite is when someone uses the F slur, and I reply “I already told you, I’m not interested.”
It’s been a while. I got the F slur most recently in about 2011, living in the midwest. Now i’m in the South and people keep their mouths shut a bit more, but then again, 50% of people are armed here so that keeps people from making stupid comments… you never know what might prompt a bullet to the head.

Do people actually do this?
The only place I go anymore is the grocery store and I desperately try to avoid any human interaction.
