  • Who could have predicted that constantly saying all men are trash could have negative impacts???

And to be clear in no way am excusing the behavior of people who respond in this fashion, but I can also understand how they ended up where they did.

I completely understand hating some people from any category of anything, but when you broadly blame ALL of a group you are absolutely going to alienate people who were either on your side or neutral. I think this is exactly what happened to a lot of guys. They were just sitting there minding. Their business and suddenly they are being told that they are inherently evil and shitty just because they are men. They hear it on the news and on social media. Pop culture takes a shit on them too once in awhile.

It doesn’t exactly take a rocket scientist to see how this could end up twisting around in the minds of some of them.

I don’t have the specific answers for how to combat this sort of stuff completely, but I think a good starting point would be to have more targeted criticisms as opposed to just going after an entire gender broadly. I think that has clearly done more damage for gender relations than it has helped anything so far.

Just my 2 cents as a guy who has seen some old friends who were once self proclaimed feminists now go full on into hating women. It’s sad to see.

  • I would take a phone that had flush cameras with the thicker body and a battery life in the multiple days range over the thinnest lightest phone ever made that still has big ol camera bumps because of the physical limitations of photography.

I do not care about the weight of my phone within reason. Not so I care about size much anymore. I have an S23+ with a case on it that adds a decent amount of thickness not only for protection but because I have big hands and the phone without a case feels like it’s going to slide out of my hands very easily.

  • I think it would have been a much better film if the audience had also been kept in the dark about him opening her pod as well. That way we can also go through the range of emotions with her at the same time when she finds out.

Just start the movie from her perspective. Pod opening and Pratt is already there. He tells her his pod just opened and he’s confused too. Then we get the whole “wandering the shipn for the first time” montage where they could drop subtle hints that it’s not actually his first time doing any of those things.

His character is absolutely a bad person, but it’s a situation we can sympathize with because being truly completely alone for any amount of time fucks with people badly. She has every right to hate him for the rest of their lives, but it turns out that if he hadn’t done what he did they all would have died because of the damaged engine or whatever it was (I can’t remember).

They could have made the movie much harder hitting and/or creepy for the first half, but they opted to try and make you sympathetic to his situation from the start.

It’s the movie that always pops into my head when thinking about wasted potential.

  • It’s less that I don’t want them mentioning anything that connects to politics and it’s more about wanting them to just present information without any additional spin.

So “Trump has put tarrifs on x countries for x amount” vs “Trump has stupidly put x tarrifs on x countries because he’s a hateful tyrant” or whatever. I think you get what I’m trying to say.

I have absolutely no problem with talking about politics as it’s pretty much impossible to mention anything in history without it, but it can be done so in very different ways. I would prefer that teachers remain as neutral as they can while presenting only factual information on whatever political topics comes up.

Kinda how I wish the news would go back to facts first reporting as opposed to this current “rush the story out before we fact check anything and make the headline as polarizing as we can to generate maximum clicks. Who cares if we have to issue a correction later on page 97 in .5 size font (or at all) we just want clicks!” Type of “news” we have now.

    I blame Reagan.

  • That’s funny. I had a teacher do something like this but in the other direction. All the questions had answers that pretty much forced you right into the blue. Shit like “do you think homeless people should be given assistance or should homeless people be shot and dumped into the sea?” Or “I think everyone deserves to find love vs gay people are the spawn of Satan”.

It is worth noting that I went to a very left leaning and notoriously “hippy” private school (against my will). I eventually managed to get expelled for smoking weed and not snitching on all my friends.

I don’t think teachers really should be pushing their political or religious agendas no matter what. School is for learning core basics in various categories.

  • It doesn’t matter what anyone does. I don’t actively remember snoozing it or sleeping through it. That shit is on autopilot. I have snoozed an alarm and sent a text to someone without waking up.

The 5 alarms is necessary. I have 3 on my phone and 2 on my Google home because I have slept through 2-3 alarms before. If I am asleep asleep you can pour water on me and I won’t wake up. Shattering glass. Vacuum. Blender. Lights. You name it.

My mom used to have to take my blankets and pillow away. Turn on my lights. Poor water on me and smack me around to get me outta bed at times.

I blame my father. When I was little I would fall asleep and take naps right next to his floor tom while he was practicing with his band. Full volume band practice and I would just pass out into my box of Legos right there next to him.

    It is what it is.
