The excuse we get in Australia for why Labor have to do everything exactly the same as how the Liberal Party would do it, is that if they don’t, they won’t get elected and the Liberal Party will get in instead and do all of exactly the same things, but with a different banner.

I can almost guarantee you at this point that it was either the air travel lobby, or dems being worried that Trump might actually be able to whip the votes to nuke the filibuster. Leaning more towards the filibuster at this moment.

Perhaps it’s the app you’re using? I would say most people (at least on Lemmy, where I’m viewing this from) don’t tag the OP unless there’s something specific they want to draw their attention to or if they’re calling them out specifically in a reply. They get notifications of all your comments so no real need to tag them. It’s a lot like reddit in that respect (again, I’m on Lemmy, using the Voyager app. Another app might be different).

Basically, the Fediverse are lots of different sites that all use the same language (protocol), and some are able to talk to each other. So a Mastodon site (instance) like mastodon.world
- can talk to another Mastodon instance (like mastodon.art, or techhub.social)
- can talk to some other twitter-like platforms like Pleroma and Akkoma
- can talk to instances of some other platforms including Lemmy and Mbin (reddit-like), Pixelfed (Instagram-like), Friendica (Facebook-like) and more
- I’m not sure but I think you can like, comment and subscribe on PeerTube instances
I haven’t kept up-to-date with what’s possible and what isn’t working yet, so I might have missed something.
